8 min abs

Having visible abs is all about the diet. Doing weighted ab work helps too. Doing hundreds of situps/crunches or using any of those wacky machines does not.

Umm, don't think in 8 minutes a day you can have nice abs... lol. This is a 24/7 job, you have to eat a very low fat, and high protein, high fiber diet, with your share of complex carbs. Also, being lean is necessary for the abs to show, or else you won't see much.

I would disagree about the very low fat part. Healthy fats, particularly omega-3's, have their place in a good diet.

Other than that,

There's an old saying... "Abs are made in the kitchen." You will NEVER have a 6pack if all you do is crunches every day. You absolutely have to lose body fat for your abs to show up.

Hooray for all the fitness threads. I watched a video in health class with some like fitness police that scolded a gym trainer for telling people they could do targeted fat burning.

What are complex carbs? Other than me knowing that carb means carbohydrate

Also what would you guys recommend as the best basic food intake per day, for this sort of work out?

I gave up trying to have abs a long time ago! I'm too lazy for the hard work involved and there is no way "8 minute abs" works!

Complex carbs are things like green vegetables, sweet potatoes, beans, and other things. Bascially complex carbs are ones that take your body longer to digest, and produce less of an insulin response. Look up "glycemic index" on google. Carbs with a lower GI are "more complex".

Better yet just check out the link in my sig. All the info you need can be found on that website.

Whats the best way to burn fat without burning some of that muscle off? If I lose any more of my fat, I'm gonna look like Skeletor! Is very distinct muscle cuts necessary or is retaining a bit of body fat better?

How big are you now? If you try to cut without having much muscle to begin with, you might just look like a skeleton when you are done.

In general, cutting is accomplished by lifting heavy, and gradually reducing calories until you reach a deficit. At that point you will start to lose weight. You convince your body to hang on to the muscle and drop the fat instead by lifting heavy.
