Were there any good games for the Wii at release?

No, but honestly. That figure seems so blown out of proportion. I'm honestly calling BS on this one. I would do the same if it was Sony claiming they sold 8m moves.

I'm not sure it has ANY games coming out in 2011 that can be called a non casual game.
Project Draco - spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon (from the creator just under a different name now).
There are some others that run the gamut from horror to casual to even Steel Battalion.
Steel Battalion Kinect?!?
If only Kinect was a good enough input device for that to live up to my dreams....
All I know is everyone I know seems to want one now. I couldn't care less after spending several hours over at my brother in law's place messing around with his to see if there's anything I'm missing.
The games are kiddie, the input lag is very noticeable, and you've got to have lots of room for more than just one player. I would expect the novelty to wear off after awhile and it will collect dust eventually.
Sure you would

That's insane if true. The wii sells like 7-10 million units...a year. If accurate that's a brilliant feat on MS's part. I'm amazed they actually had that much hardware in the initial launch.
Did they really expect it to be that popular and just planned for it, or was that meant to be a couple quarters worth of supply that went up in smoke?
I'm sure that a lot of developers were sitting on the sidelines waiting to see what the launch sales were like and are now furiously going to town to churn out titles after seeing those stats.
Uhm, that shows you obviously didn't mess with it for very long. The input lag is hardly noticeable, and I wouldn't classify Kinect Sports or Dance Central as kiddie games. This thing is insanely fun at parties, and it's even easier than a Wii or Move because they just have to jump in my place as opposed to passing around a controller. Everyone I've played it with left impressed - including non-gamers & hardcore gamers alike.

If I'm not mistaken, their initial expectations were to sell 3 million units in calender 2010. Shortly before launch, they raised it to 5 million. To have sold 8 million just completely blew those numbers out of the water.
one thing that people also do not realize is that many MANY HDTV's have input lag on them by default, and that since you are used to them with normal gaming you just don't notice it. then when you play something that is motion control, where you can really "feel" the lag, it seems very noticeable.
i'm willing to bet that people who get A LOT of input lag on Kinect have either not calibrated it well, or they have a laggy HDTV, or a combination of both.
before i bought sf4 (which was feb 09 i think), i had been on my HDTV for 5 years and had no clue that there was lag until I played sf4 on a crt tv, and realized that i was trying to do moves milliseconds early (to compensate for the game lag i was used to on my HDTV) and nothing was coming out at all (due to being in block stun or another animation). it was so extremely annoying.
since i got more serious about it, i went and bought a lagless 23" monitor that they use at the biggest fighting game tourney in the country, which is known to be lagless.
needless to say, after using that for a week or so, i could NOT go back to playing on an HDTV. and now when i DO play on HDTV's, lag is extremely noticeable to me, and not only in fighting games. it is noticeable in any type of game.
Exactly, we were playing it with a bunch of good friends over the holidays and it was fun. The games we played are not something I would pick up and play on my own though. I believe we played Kinect Sports, Deca Sports, and Dance Central. I would consider every single one of those kiddie games.
To be fair I typically like sports games, but I don't like dancing games for the most part. I'm going to whole heartedly disagree about the input lag issue though. It's extremely noticeable and somewhat inaccurate IMO. The Wii is more accurate, but I still notice a bit of lag and the PS3 Move seems to be nearly a 1:1 representation of the controller's movement from what I can tell.
I will concede your point about it being easier due to no controllers though. We could pretty much swap in one body for another and it would recognize the person after the initial calibration. For Move games you pretty much have to recalibrate each time you swap in a new body and even if you don't have to recalibrate you still have to swap the controller back and forth. For parties I still prefer to break out the Wii because the setup is easier and more of my friends with kids have Wii systems, so there is no learning curve and we can just have fun.

Well it would be illegal for them to claim they did sell that many if they didn't. Since they are a publicly traded company, it could be considered manipulation, fraud, etc.
