8 Gigs loaded - 3.99 usable -Why

I am running W7 pro SP1 on a p7p55d MB with 8 gigs ram (4 x 2 Kingston DDR3 10700 - all 4 sticks are the same make) CPU is a Core I7 860 O/C to 3.8 GHZ. Bios is AMI V1408. Only 4088 MB's of the 8 gigs is indicated in the bios. When I start with just 1 stick of 2 gigs bios sees 1 gig and as I add each successive 2 gig stick the bios sees just half. Went to msconfig/boot/advanced made sure nothing is checked and rebooted then to Basic Info which shows 8 gigs installed with 3.99 usable. Anyone have any ideas cause I am stumped. TKS Robert

Odd that bios doesn't detect the 8GB - that's likely the issue, but before that. Can you confirm that you are running 64bit windows and not 32bit?

Try looking for a setting in the bios called "remap memory feature" or something similar and enable it or if its enabled try disabling it.

What are the full markings on the memory sticks? It sounds like you have 1GB sticks there. Put up the model# in full and see if you can look it up online.

I've had issues in the past with dual-sided DIMM's where my motherboard couldn't read the other side of the DIMMs and gave me only half the memory... not sure if that's relevant, but you can check if the DIMMs have chips on both sides and if the motherboard supports dual-sided DIMMs.

hmmm.. or perhaps a bios update that improves memory compatibility. like you said, it may not like the DIMMs.
