8 gig linux limit

Does anyone know what linux versions (if any) can get around the 8 gig limit? I remember hearing that some of the latest and greatest were supposed to be able to do that with an improved LILO or something. I'm thinking it was maybe Mandrake 7.2, and RedHat >6.2 whenever that comes out. Don't know about any others.

Has anybody dealt with this?

Are you referring to having the boot loader reside over the 1024th cylinder, or recognizing drives over 8GB?

If you are reffering to the 1024th cylinder limit for the boot loader, i *think* both the new versions of LILO and GRUB no longer have this limit. Mandrake 7.1 should have both, i believe.

Actually, the specific problem is having the boot loader recognizing the boot partition if it resides above 1024. The boot loader itself is actually in the MBR anyways, at least it is when I install linux.

But 7.1 will do that, huh? Damn, and the only version I have is 7.02. Bastards, that means I gotta find a newer version to download, like 7.2. How's that for a distro?

Thanks

you don't need a new distro
just download a newer version of lilo or grub
and make a boot disk to boot off of at first
