8 gb Sandisk Cruzer flash drive...formatted w/ NTFS

I got an 8 gb Sandisk Cruzer usb flash drive. I removed U3 and formatted as NTFS. Now its saying 41 mb used even though the disk is empty. What is this 41 mb? It seems like alot of space to store system information. Does this sound right?
