8.7 GB Dual layer DVD+R/+RW compatibility

Just read an article over at The Register regarding DVD +R DL technology. What they don't seem to explicitly state is that we can use our existing DVD+R burners to be able to use these discs. Any one know off hand if these dual layer discs will be compatible for writing using our existing dual format burners such as the Sony DRU-510A?
