I paid for Media Center. If I upgrade from 8.1 to 10, do I have to pay for Media Center again?

That's awesome. The more I read about 10 the more I love it. It's shaping up to be the best Microsoft OS release since 7.

I think I'll be using 8.1 on my HTPC for the foreseeable future. Not too sure if I want to start paying $30/year for what I essentially get for free now. Especially as my tuners are Haupage so I'd have to buy new hardware as well.

Good luck if you believe that MS will still continue to provide and support the EPG for free.

Good luck if you believe that MS will still continue to provide and support the EPG for free.

But does MS do anything other than tie WMC into the EPG from my cable tv provider, in my case FIOS? I'm not sure about anything they do for OTA broadcasts as I don't use that, but my guide comes from VZ.

My cable card is free with my service, and pretty much everything in my area (greater Boston) is encrypted unless it's also OTA. So whether it's recording Doctor Who on BBC America and Star Talk on NatGeo, watching the Red Sox live on NESN out on the back porch, or pretty much anything else I watch that's not on a PBS affiliate, WMC is the best solution for DRM tv.

Yes, I am seeing that if you have the Media Center with Windows 8.1, you
will have it with Windows 10 as well.

"In a private meeting this week at the Build developers' conference in San
Francisco, a Microsoft executive confirmed to me that there will be no update to the company's Media Center software for Windows 10."
Emily S: at 18:53:11
Unfortunately, I am unable to view that link. I can only view a verified
Microsoft.com site. However, I have confirmed this with my coworkers that
Windows 10 will have the Media Center. It may not be updated, but it will
be there.

OK, thank you
