i tried 7zip last night before reading this thread and i didnt like it so i am going to stick with winrar...for me it is easy to use...it is free you dont need to pay of course it will beg for your money but just ignore it can you?

How could 7zip get any easier? Right click a file, and either pick compress or extract, whichever you want to do.

Out of all the .zip alternatives, .rar seems to have the greatest acceptance. Since I compress files often I have to still use winrar.

7zip:
Can't set defaults
Can't create separate archive for each file selected
No recovery record

Winrar:
slower multithreading

Winner: Winrar

with regard to separate archive, you can with CLI scripting.

for i in ~; do 7zip such and such.

oh wait, that's bash. can still do it with cygwin! can probably do it with batch files too, tho i know not how.
