(VALPARAISO, Ind., February 10th, 2004, 11 a.m.) -- Eleven seventh-graders face charges in juvenile court after police found marijuana at a party in a home.
"I think the marijuana users are getting younger and younger," said Robert Taylor, coordinator of a local police drug task force. "We just haven't made that many arrests of kids that young."
Police went to the house on Friday night after receiving an anonymous report about the party. Inside, officers found marijuana under a bed and a bottle of alcohol in a dresser drawer, a police report said.
Ten of the Ben Franklin Middle School students, ages 12-14, were charged with possession of marijuana and visiting a common nuisance.
A 13-year-old boy who investigators believe supplied the marijuana for the party faces charges of possession of marijuana, visiting and maintaining a common nuisance and possession of alcohol, police said.
Investigators say a 17-year-old boy apparently supplied a $40 bag of marijuana to the 13-year-old.
Porter County drug agents also arrested two adults accused of supplying the drug to the 17-year-old. At the adults' apartment, narcotics officers reported finding 41 plastic bags containing nearly half a pound of marijuana.
