Let me just say it was awesome fun!
The day got off to a slow start with ice on the track. Briefing (learnt about flags, over taking etc) delayed by an hr. We got on the track about 9:50 to do sight laps (no over taking, under yellow flat, get use to the track).
Within the first 15minutes this guy had spun his car (can't remember, but it was a stripped out red car with a roll cage) and crashed in to the side wall near the pit entrance
. A lot of ice was on the track. Red flag everyone called back in.
The organisers had everyone do more sight laps to heat the track up and to at least give us some track time. Everyone started to go faster but still no over taking. So some guys were slowing down on sections and hammering it more but no over taking.
About 11:30 the track was opened up so no flags.
It was A LOT OF FUN
. Beasting around the track and going as fast as your balls would allow. The sensation of going around a bend hard that goes down a hell and to your right and then go your left was savage. You could feel the car (S2000) roll a bit as you did that section.
I learnt that over taking is by consent only. The person in front has to indicate right and you over take on the left and only on a straight. This made it a lot safer. A few guys on the S2ki forums got a bit leary (read: annoyed) with slower cars but f0ck'em. I moved out of the way a lot because I'm not in the game to slow people down or to prove anything about my driving skills. I'm there to have fun and go as fast as I dare and learn more about my car. Not to prove to XXX that I'm this good or what not. If he can't take that f0ck'em.
I over took about 6cars and was well pleased by that
My mate in a S2000 also was driving much more aggressively then I was after the sight laps. He was using his engine to brake, taking much better lines then I was and using the whole width of the track a lot better then I was. He had played the track in GTR.
I wasn't as aggressive as him on the brakes and for my level of skill the brakes were fine. I felt no brake fade at all. The day was cold and I wasn't braking that late. Maybe when my skills warrent brake pad and disc upgrade I'll upgrade.
On one of his laps the first long sweeping right he was going in too fast and was braking and then going to gear in to 2nd but realised he was at 80mph, so he didn't put it in to the gear, let up and put it in to 3rd, still too high revs and the car back end went out, he countered left and then too much right and the car went around
haha. He was a bit shaken up, but he didn't go on the grass, just the ended up the wrong way on the track. The car didn't start up for about 20seconds, red flat, let the guys passed and then the car started up again and off he was.
I had the back end out on about 2 goes. One at the same area he did. But later on we realised that there was some oil on that corner.
