So i just got my 7k60 and stuck in my X31:
Pentium M 1.4
1GB ram
802.11a/b/g

its a noticeable speed imrovement over my 80GN (4200RPM) but it has really killed the battery life. I can get lik 4 hrs at full brightness with the old hd now I have to turn the LCD all the way down to even approach 4 hrs of battery life. Overall the speed increase wasn't worth it and it will be going back to frys soon.

Noise wise, audible seeks and slightly audible idle noise. The 80GN was silent. Runs noticebly hotter than the 80GN.

Paid $259 for it, but its not worth it IMO.

What do you ppl think about it, ie the ppl with T40/1P's and other who have upgraded their notebooks. I'm disappointed and will probably try again in a generation or so of HD's.

I am in a similar situation trying to decide between the 7k60 and 80GN.
I have an X24 with a crappy 30GN.

You said you were getting 4hrs with the 80GN, but not as much with the 7k60, how much did the battery life decrease? below 3hrs or to 2hrs?

Also, what hdd did you upgrade to the 80GN from? 40GN?

How slow is the 80GN compared to the original hdd that came with the X31?

I kept swinging back and forth between the 80GN and 7K60, but still cannot makeup my mind... I have a T40p with a 7k60, but I can't swap them out because I use the T40p for work, but with the extended 9-cell battery the T40p only gets ~5hrs with brightness @ MAX.

Thanks for sharing your experience so far.

The 80GN is the original hd that came w/ my X31. It decreased battery life from about 4 hrs to a little under three at max brightness.

thnx for the tip but I could bare the increased heat and noise if the hd felt significantly faster. It feels no where as fast as the jump i made from some old 5400rpm drive to the 14GXP (first 7200 IDE HD). I don't feel its worth the price.
