I realize that if I were using Windows, I could use a program like DVD drink, or something, to copy the DVD and shrink the size by changing some quality settings, but I'm using Ubuntu right now and I'm not sure what apps I should be using to do so. I already have come VOB files, but I'm not sure what I can do to make them smaller? (6x1GB VOB, 1x600MB VOB).

Any suggestions? Should I just make it easy on myself and burn half the VOB's to one DVD, and the other half to another?

to preserve quality use a 2 layer disc, or yes, resort to data style backup

I'm a little hesitant to run programs like that with WINE because of their possible dependancies. Conversions take hours on my end, and it would be a nice little waste if it didn't work. I think I'll go with the dual layer idea.

Thanks!

It's a dual layerd disc. You can use somthing like DVD Shrink to back it up to a single layer disc.

Takes about half hour (sometimes a little more) for a dvd on my rig with all the extra quality features.

But also, less compression = good.
Try to save some space by removing all the junk you don't need (other languages, extra features, etc.)

You can also split the DVD on two single layered disces with no compression to save quality.
