Did I miss something, or is 12.2 slower in everything except tessmark (lol)?

Doesn't look to me like you're missing anything. I guess there was a reason they said not to use 12.2 with 7900s. :)

I wonder just how long GCN and VLIW drivers will continue to be separate. Or are unified VLIW+GCN drivers simply never in the cards?

My bet is once the 7970s get an official stable driver it will be added to the standard bundle.

12.2 doesn't even support 7970. It is for 6970 and below only. Soo yeah

There are 3 drivers available for 7970. The cd driver dated 12/14. The AMD web driver dated 1/9.. and another AMD web beta driver dated 1/19. All of them are catalyst 11.12. Guru3d had a hack to make 12.2 work for 7970, but no official CCC 12 has been released for 7970, beta or otherwise.

Also: i need a tl'dr on these results. edit: the 1/19 beta driver is the one to use.....working well for me

Yeah 1/19 (which is the second 8.921.2) looks like the one with best performance for gaming. 8.9500 if you just wanna do tessmark runs
