If one was started and I missed it, I appologize.

Just got my cards (2 HIS).

Both instantly hit 1125 (maximum allowed in CC) and had no issues in a benchmark run. Both cards stayed under 70C while OC'd in the benchmark run. Fan speed was 36%.

Stock cat drivers on AMD's site.

From what I read elsewhere, it's those 7900 drivers (I'm assuming they match what was sent on discs) or nothing. Someone reported 12.1 not recognizing the card.

This is correct. You cannot use 12.1 yet.

You have to use the CD installation drivers, or the specific 7900 drivers on the AMD website. Nothing else will work.

I used the drivers found on AMD's site that were posted on 1/9. I have not tried to optimize anything either, just slap in the cards, install the drivers, benchmark.

Shouldn't be anything new really but figured I would post them anyhow. Retail cards seem to OC just fine.

Bitcoin mining

Single card:

7970@925mhz core
543mhash

7970@1100mhz core
651mhash.

This is using Diablominer with default settings.

Would be nice if they ditched the unified drivers or at least just did them by series/generations.

That sounds good. What does a 6990 or 5870 get?

5870 at ~850Mhz gets around 400MH/s with GPUMiner. The kind of hashing Bitcoin does is one of the few things that can use pretty much every shader in a VLIW5 card.
