I currently have a evga 7800GT 256MB in my system and planning to upgrade the video card. I'm thinking either get another evga 7800GT 256MB for SLI, or replace it with a 7950GT 512MB. Which route will give me better performance?

System:
AMD X2 4200 (might upgrade to 4800+ soon)
1.5GB DDR RAM (might upgrade to 2GB)
Asus A8N-SLI Premium

I'd say grab a hold of your wallet & place it back in your pocket for a month or so until Nvidia releases G80 becuause prices will fall quite a bit on all DX9 cards at that point.

Quite a few people tell me to get the 7900GTO. What's so special about it?

If your lucky enough to get an eVGA one for $250, you pretty much have a 7900GTX for $200 less.

After some research, seems like the 7900 GTO is the way to go. I ordered a evga 7900GTO 512MB. Can't wait to get it!

GTO is a GTX that is underclocked on memory a little bit..easily remedied just bumping back up to stock (or more:)).

GTO has rendered all NV cards above $200 obsolete, including the now slow 7950GX2 compared to buying two GTO's for less.

Go look at some 7900GTX SLI vs 7950GX2 benchmarks. Thats where you will be buying two GTO's for $490.

Rumor has it the 7950GX2 is about to take a big price drop as well. And many would prefer a single card solution to SLI :p

But really what is going on is a massive clearance of all G7x parts as G80 is imminent.

Not necessarily. What if you're like me and can only run single-slot cooling?

the only problem which i hated about sli was the VSYNC issue on certain games that still hasn't been resolved by nvidia

i had to use directxtweaker(something like that i think) to force triple buffering and it doesn't work on all games either

Hmmm.. maybe... would it fit in my Dell Dimension E510 case? I really don't want to buy a new case, so that would be nice. Also, which one would support my Pentium D 920? If this is possible, i'll dump getting the Wii and 7950GT and i'll get me this and one GTO. Two is out of the question at the moment... *cries*

Best would be to get a 1900XT now and upgrade after 6 months. Or get a 7900GTO now, unlock it and upgrade after 6 months.

Else, do nothing and upgrade after 6 months.

after reading about the GTO (refurb gtx?) in the other thread, it doesn't sound like it's such a good buy NOW. Maybe it'd be good if one waits till the companies clear this up.

From what I have herad a 1900XT 256 is better than a 7900GTO if not better than the 7900GTX!
