7950GT OC

I just got my dell e521 and went to install my 7950gt oc, but the psu only has one open power cable, the 7950gt oc has two that need to be plugged in. will that card not work?

Are you saying the 7950GT has 2 PCI-E cables that need to be plugged into the card? As far as I knew, only the 8800 series needs 2 PCI-E cables plugged into them.

when i plug the card into the pci-e slot, they gave me this "dongle" that plugs in the back of the card and splits in to two power cables. I think this is it. are there any good video cards that do not need a power dongle or just a single one?

I really think that a single PCI-E cable plugged directly into the 6 pin slot on the card would work. The card doesn't require that much juice. Does your PSU supply you with a PCI-E cable and slot?

Edit: I just now read that you own a Dell, so it is doubtful that your PSU has a PCI-E slot on it. Yes, you will need two cables to supply juice to your card. I hope your PSU can handle it.

do they make an extension for that cable? one end of the cable plugged into the female end of a cable coming off the dvd drive and the other end into the video card. i'm thinking of returning the 7950gt oc and getting the 7900 gt which only requires one power cable.

p.s.
can you returned opened, but unused, video cards to tigerdirect.com?

I don't think you can buy a splitter for your PSU, so you are kind of out of luck unless you can free up another cable on your PSU.

YEs, you can return the card, as long as you have everything that it came with.
