meh I'm not really excited about the 7950gt as it really is just a 7900gt with slightly higher clocks. Kinda like the factory overclocked 7900gt. I see no reason for this card.

To me it is an alternative to X1900 XT and it eats less power. HDCP is plus.

alternative to the x1900xt? ???? They aren't even in the same legue. An x1900xt will crush this card. And HDCP for me is about as usefull as VTF. A check box feature as some would put it.

$600ish for a stompin' SLI rig with dual 512MB cards is not a bad thing... Sure, you always have the GX2, but two seperate cards are definitely more aftermarket cooling friendly.

I dunno... with the clock/mem bump, this card comes closer to GTX and X1900XT territory... To say it's not even in the same league is probably an over statement.

True. I bet it give some decent competition to a stock XT.

I would assume this card is a replacement for the 7900gtx, so should be a bit quicker and cheaper to make. What process are these cards made on? 80mm I hope. So I wonder if this means delays in the g80 or if it will be the new midrange card until g80 architecture is adapted to the midrange.

Telling the truth makes you a fanboy? A fanboy would say this 7950gt would stomp an x1900xt.

I've had a 7900gt running at 560/1650, after i switched to a x1900xtx the difference in speed was very noticeable. Rlhdribl was 50% faster on the x1900xtx, so his statement isnt an over statement.

http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_ur...0973_1.htm&lp=zt_en&btnTrUrl=Translate

this a translated page, seems looks like the 7950GT will be using the same ol' G71 core, basically a underclocked 7900GTX with HDCP support, i wouldn't be surprised to see this card OCing to 7900GTX speeds.

Lots of fanboys going all haywire in this thread.

I dont see whats the rush to get worked up by this card. As someone else mentioned this card is clearly an alternative to a X1900XT (less power/heat) and it also has 512mb of Vram.

Lets wait for the benches.

A supposed 50% increase in rthdribl means what exactly?

Yep I am the ATI fanboy talking about their paper launch in another thread. I am also the ATI fanboy who has never owned an ATI product. You know what I smell? Someone using the worn out fanboy tag again.

I do however feel that my usage of "not even in the same legue" was a bit much. This does just look like a down clocked version of the 7900gtx. I imagine that with the x1900 droping to around $300 nvidia wanted a card at that price range to compete and couldn't sell the gtx at those prices and so created this card with a g71 core that just didn't do good enough for a gtx. This card just might compete with the x1900xt after all. If it wasn't for it's lack of IQ and no HDR+AA. But you do get HDCP instead,....Yipy!!

Uhm I recently got a 7900GT KO (N584 model - nice copper 'sink that even covers the RAM chips, and the fan is nice and quiet). If they offer this same cooling apparatus on a 7950GT KO, I will almost definitely Step Up to it. Reasons: double the RAM, likely a bit higher clocks, HDCP, and only paying the difference in price.

woot, i say - woot!

Yeah this will be a nice alternative to the X1900 XT. They are bascially in the same league. Though I am not sure if ATI is keeping the X1900 XY 512 SKU for much longer, as they are releasing a lower cost 256 SKU as well for an MSRP of 279US.

I wonder what clocks the 7950 GT will have. in the eVGA KO revision,

I could be wrong about this, but I have the feeling that NV is slowly going to silently phase out the GTX. The 7950GT can take it's place in the market, but is manufactured on the smaller (presumably cheaper) PCB and HSF. The GTX will still be around, but not in large quantities. The eVGA GTXes have been sold out on newegg for 2 weeks now, and they don't even come up when you search for "7900GTX" anymore. Just speculation on my part. Of course that doesn't necessarily make it new or even interesting, but it would explain the reason for the card's existence.
