HD7950 ruled out. Will most likely get the Sapphire HD7970 OC Edition unless a $500 GTX 680 falls in my basket tomorrow... 3 free crummy games, woot!

The sapphire 7970 oc Edition now $499 @ Newegg.

Guess I just payed $30 for me "free" games.
:D

Boy am I glad I paid $449AR and didn't wait for the "Three for Free" bundle. That bundle is worth like $10 to me at most, not $50. :) Although to be fair, it looks like other brands didn't increase their prices by as much if at all. You can still find some reference 7970's for $460 after rebate. The $450AR one by MSI is out of stock.

They had the 3 for free bundle at $459.99 + 10 MIR yesterday. That would have been the best day to buy.

Don't get sapphire. If you update to aftermarket cooling then sapphire voids warranty while Asus or msi doesnt

My XFX dual fan "Ghost" version should be coming in today. Anyone know XFX's policy on aftermarket coolers, overclocking, etc.? I'm not sure I'm even going to bother (this card will be a pretty big step up from my 460 1GB), but if I wanted to quiet it down in the future or something, I'd like to know what my options are.

You should get 1100 core minimum.....1500 on the memory...Aftermarket cooling doesn't need to be changed unless you are adding voltage for a bit more extreme overclocking. Any aftermarket cooler voids a warranty.

Actually, XFX does not void the warranty for changing the heatsink.
** XFX has carefully selected the optimal thermal or fansink component for your graphics card model. We do not encourage the removal of components due to damage that may result in the process. XFX understands that some enthusiasts may choose to replace the original component with their own cooling solution. To support the gaming community, we recommend that you contact XFX prior to any modifications so that we can update your profile and product registration to avoid potential issues with warranty support. In addition, XFX support will be able to walk through the installation with you or provide feedback and pointers on available options for your specific product. You may even consider shipping your components to XFX and allow the technicians at XFX to perform the modification for you (shipping charges to XFX apply).

I looked it up to be sure. Link

Newegg is getting this card to me today, one freaking day.....Price I wasn't happy about $499 (doubt I'll play Dirt 3 or Deus Ex: Human Revolution)....but hoping the card quality and getting it in my hands in 24 hours will suffice.

Aftermarket cooling may not be needed for overclocking moderately high, but with my Arctic Xtreme my GPU is the most silent component in my computer. Even my case fans are louder. and this is at 100% fan speed. It can't be heard even if you stick your ear close to it, this is with 100% fan speed. No custom cooler will be 1/5th as good.

OC in sig, my core temps of 7970 oc never touch 60c, always 50s.
