I was reading on techreport.com that the 780G and the 790GX both suffer from much slower sata write times than other amd mobos with different chipsets like the nvidia 8200/8300. Has anyone experienced this and what can be done to address it? I have a WD 640GB HDD and want to get the most performance from the drive and if the article is correct, I'm getting less than half the normal transfer speeds.

link?

AMD's southbridges have never been the best. Too bad most AMD 780G boards DO NOT pair them up with a SB750.

Also wanted to ask if I should get a controller that tops off at 1.5 or 3Gb/s.

It would appear the issue is NCQ support. The only real question is, if that has an effect on real world performance or does it show up just in synthetics.

i don't think this issue will limit the capabilities of a WD640... maybe an intel X25-E...

I hope it doesn't but the info from the techreport article is worrisome. My reads on the 640GB hdd are around 93.6MB/s in HDTach and I cant test out the writes as I have a lot of files on the drive.
