Hi, I am about to buy a 790GX board, and have already got a ATI 4650 card.

I have 3 monitors can I use the integrated graphics card as the 3rd monitor or do I need to buy another graphics card?

Is anyone using a 3 or 4 monitor set up?

790GX support dual monitors. However most boards support 1 digital + 1 analog output, I believe. I do not know whether it is a chipset limit or board designs because the on-board GPU is capable of handling 2560x1600. (dual-link DVI)

HD 4650 supports two outputs (one single-link and one dual-link) so you have total 4 outputs available. I have not hooked up 3 monitors but did try hooking up two (one on each, on-board and discrete) and it worked fine.

That?s really good news, as I been told by some source that the internal IDP on the 790GX shuts down if a PCI-Ex card is inserted. (Unless it?s a 3450 in which hybrid crossfire is formed).

What card did you get working together with the 790GX?

Actually here it is from tom's, but it wasn't so clear on using it for multi monitor set up.

Paired with additional AMD graphics cards, you get the following options :

Paired with additional AMD graphics cards, you get the following options :

Running one additional Radeon HD graphics card (up to a Radeon HD 3470) allows the enabling of Hybrid CrossFire, which combines the rendering power of the 790GX with its Radeon HD 3300 and the extra graphics card to accelerate 3D performance.

Running an additional Radeon HD 3650 or faster will shut off the integrated Radeon HD 3300 core and run only the additional card.

Running two additional Radeon HD cards?preferably high end models?shuts off the integrated Radeon HD 3300 core and allows you to take advantage of ATI CrossFireX graphics to maximize 3D performance.

Running two Radeon HD4870 X2 will disable the integrated graphics unit and run the two dual-GPU cards in CrossFireX mode.

HD 3850 and HD 4890. Just to clarify, I used a 780G board (Asrock). Should work the same way on 790GX. I'd consult the manual of your board.

Hi,

I think you miss understood my post, I'm not trying to use 2 graphics cards, just wondering if 1 graphics card and the internal card can be used at the same time to display to 3 monitors. (ie: 2 DVIs connected to 4650 and a VGA connected to the intergrated VGA on the motherboard)

My other option is to buy another pci-ex card.

I meant 780G + HD 3850 and 780G + HD 4890, respectively.
