My friend has recently purchased a XFX 7900GTX and is having graphical corruption issues. He swaped the card out for the same model and is getting the same issues as before. He has tried 2 diffrent Nvidia drivers (91.31 & 84.21) and still the same problems. His temps are fine too (43idle, 54load) so that is not the problem.

He took some screenshots before his rig crashed http://members.home.nl/koray/Artifacts/

I know the GTX problems are common, but i dont really know what the current situation with this card is. Was a lot of the older 7900's recalled for stability issues or something? Could the retailer have sent him such card?

I had problems somewhat like that, went through 4 9800 pros before i realised my directx install was fubared.

In farcry, i could just alt-tab out of the game and usually the problems would go away when i alt-tabbed back in...only to re-appear a bit later.

I only really worked out it was directx when i bought a HDTV tuner & kept getting dx errors trying to install the drivers. Had to reainstall windows to fix it...(well, i did find out how to uninstall dx9, which solved the HDTV install problem, but utterly screwed up pretty much everything else...)

fwiw, if i alt-tab out of CS:S and back in, there's a 5-10% chance I'll get purple overlaying highlights like that. not sure what causes it.

Take a look at your buds power supply. Let us know what he has. Make and model.

He has the Be Quiet "Dark Power PRO", BQT P6-PRO - 600W

Has dual 12V rails both with 20A each.

He has recived his second replacement card, he said its version 1.4(?)

We shall see if it remains stable.
