Folks, just got this bad boy card. I took off the fan and reapplied silver5 on the GPU. Also got rid of thermal pad on memory chips without realizing there's quite a distance from the chip to the heatsink, so when the fan/sink closes, mem chps can't touch sink.
Results, good GPU temp, 48 ish, but PC wizard reads 709c on GPU diode, WTF. Anyway to fix this? The spot near the 66 pin power supply connector(the board above that black heatsink to be exact) indeed feels extremely hot, thermal-metor reads 89.73C idle, got me finger a blister the first time.
Is this normal for 7900 or it's due to missing thermal pad? How do I make one since I dumped them already, can't really buy them market neigher.

I've heard that their 1.1ns samsung memory gets red hot, which inturn can cause it to burnout over a few weeks to months. If I were you I would find a solution to the heat problem. Try to track down some good thermal tape, as while it doesnt exactly do much to heat dissipation, it might keep it under the threashold.
