7900GT vs. X1800XT

You can. I voted for the X1800XT since I already put my money where my mouth is on this issue after playing with both. 🙂

dude we have so many thread on ATI X1800XT vs 7900GT 🙁 just use the search feature on this forum.

Better IQ , HDR with AA , Great performance in Oblivion/BF2 , AVIVO encoder/decoder , Overall better performance 7900GT

Nvidia :
Cool , Consume less power and you can volt mod to crazy speed at the expensive of warranty.

You should mention the price (are we assuming same price?). I was going to add something about the price of x1800xt's here in Australia, but on research it appears we have now finally got that price cut on them (they hung up there near x1900xt prices), it appears to be powercolor only, so far, but this is good news. IMO, the x1800xt might have to get my vote, ATI drivers notwithstanding, i like the idea of HDR+AA. (Also i dont want to volt mod a 7900gt, a little too much effort for my liking (i'd have to buy everything needed).

If prices are the same I'd choose the x1800xt, just seems a bit more versatile and for the games where the 7900GT is faster, the x1800xt is plenty fast enough.

But I would switch to the 7900gt if it's $40-50 cheaper.

Aye, the Sapphire X1800XT 256MB is currently a bargain here in England at £170 inc. tax, totally crazy price considering the cheapest 7900GT is a crappy Galaxy in the ~£220 range. 🙂 If you can volt mod it and overclock it well then I guess it's worth extra outlay, but not £50 more sorry.

Lame Thread.
Or are you just an ATi or Nvidia fanboy who is worried about the outcome? If you don't like the thread, you are welcome to leave rather than add absolutely nothing of worth. Go troll some other thread thread, you waste of space.

As I mentioned, the X1800XT 256MB is much cheaper where I live, and the 512MB is around the same price or a little more I think.

Would be nice to hear from some other people on the pricing situation where they live.

I must admit, I was expecting a much bigger turn-out than this for the 7900GT. A lot of people on here seem to be interested in volt-modding these cards.

Got my 7900Gt in UK from a UK inet company for £199 Delivered!

So thought it worth it compared to the 1800XT 512mb... especially as i have OCed it fairly successfully so far...

Not tempted by 1800XT 256mb version... for £20 less...

EDIT:

wtf that quote went wrong :S

meant to quote the £220 uk price for a 7900GT...

overclock on the 7900GT wins it for me. mostly because i won't be playing oblivion, however...

Personally if Nvidia and ATI were COMPLETELY equal, i would pick ATI because 1. the company is canadian, 2. it's main color theme is red, and 3. ruby is way hotter than nvidia's pixies.

but i digress... I can't tell the difference in IQ anyway, but I like overclock % numbers.
