7900GT volt mod question..alternative to conductive pen?

I've read all sorts of guides regarding the 1.4 volt mod.

A conductive silver pen (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18318&vpn=8420-P&manufacture=O hers) is recommended but I don't see the point in paying $20 for a one time use.....

I heard of some alternatives, namely a rear window defogger repair kit and an automotive defroster grid repair kit. Went to the local store and saw the products. Price was a bit more reasonable at $10 (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18318&vpn=8420-P&manufacture=O hers)(http://www.permatex.com/products/au...ick_Grid_Rear_Window_Defogger_Repair_ it.htm), but I'm not sure how well they'll work. First off, they're EXTREMELY runny like water. It doesn't say that it's quick drying either, which makes me wonder if this stuff will get all over the video card. I'm a bit worried so I didn't end up buying anything. Anyone who's used this stuff, can you tell me that it's safe to use???

If you had a small tipped soldering iron and a steady hand, you could do it that way.

Honestly, if you're paying $10 for that repair kit, what is another $5 or $10 for a conductive pen to do it the "right" way? My pen was $12.99 from the local Radio Shack.

I definitely wouldn't use that rear window defogger repair kit on a $280+ video card.

I used the window defogger kit on an athlon xp I had back in the day. I swore never again. Its messy, and wasn't easy to work with at all. The extra 10 bucks would be well worth it.
