7900gt overclocking Help

I am looking to overclock my 7900gt to hold me to this next Christmas for conroe. I am not new to overclocking but new to the hardmod's, pencilmod's, and the resistor replacing.
I am looking at the GUIDE here and wondering because i am new to this if I could only do steps 3 + 4 and skip the rest of them and still get 1.5v off the core?

u can get up to 1.5 volts much easier using the conductive pen mod explained HERE. Thats what i used on my 7900gt and it worked perfectly. Course i stayed at 1.4 volts cuz 1.5 only gave me another 25mhz on the core.
