7900GT or x1800xt

Im upgrading my computer soon. Decided on getting x2 3800. Want to know what video card to get. Heard that 7900gt's are great for the money and that they are better than nvidias 7800GTX. I have also heard that the x1800xt is a great card, but its a little spendy... any suggestions?

where did you hear that it has better 2d imaging? thats odd...never heard that one before.

I'm pretty sure the 7900gt is cheaper and faster, so go with that.

Speed wise they are about equal . . .

As for the 2D imaging thing, I assume it's the AVIVO vs. Purevideo thing. (i.e. AVIVO currently has better performance and image quality with videos than Purevideo)
 
He heard that back in the old days when certain card manufacturers were using shoddy RLC networks to filter the video signal on it's way out to the monitor. Nowadays, the filtering is fine and 2D is on par with ATI.

You should look up some facts before saying such nonesense, x1800 pretty much kills the 7900 unless its OCed or opengl game

More than half of the retail versions of the card are overclocked...some by more than 100Mhz...

Figure if you pick up one of the highly overclocked versions of the card, you're getting nearly 7800GTX 512 performance, which slaughters the x1800xt...not to mention it's cheaper, cooler, much quieter, smaller, and you can easily get a pair running in SLi...



X1800XT is a nice card, but I'd for sure go for the 7900GT
