Have a Biostar TA790GX 128M coming, it has Radeon HD3300 graphics. How might this stack up against my current (old, but not integrated) 7900GS card?

I cant imagine any situation where the HD3300 could beat the 7900gs. in older games the 7900gs would easily beat the crap out of that 3300 integrated gpu. considering that the hd3300 has less than half the power of 2600xt or 8600gt then I dont see it beating the 7900gs in newer games either.

7900GS is definitely faster. If toyota is correct and it's less than 1/2 the speed of the 8600gt, then it is slower. The 8600 gt is about the same as the a 7950GT or a X1950Pro. And 7900GS is maybe 75% of these.

Actually the 8600GT is on par with the 7900GS while the 8600GTS was on par with the 7950GT.

isn't the 3300 just a 3200 with a higher clock and sideport memory...if that's the case then a 7900GS will dish out 50 kinds of hurt on the 3300.

yeah the 3300 has 40 shaders while the 2600xt has 120 shaders. the 2600xt and 8600gt are about even in games so yeah a 3300 would have less than half the power of a 2600xt or 8600gt. the 3300 is almost identical to a 2400xt so this should give you an idea. http://www.gamespot.com/features/6182806/p-5.html

yes in most newer games the 8600gt easily beats the 7900gs and even the 7900gt sometimes. still though the 3300 is way less than half as powerful as the 8600gt.

Ya, no doubt the 3300 is much weaker than the 7900GS. I believe I actually seen a benchmark a while ago showing an old Geforce 6800NU beating a 2400xt in performance as well.

well look in the link I just posted above and the plain 6800 actually gets raped by a 2400xt in Crysis. :Q

different games and settings can sometimes result in some strange outcomes for various cards.

lol, oops didnt see that. 800*600 is kind of limiting though. Would have been nice if the upped the res a little to 1024*768. Then I think the tables might have turned.

yeah but the 6800 is only getting 8 fps at 800x600 so its already completely unplayable. older games is where the 6800 would be even or better than the 2400xt though.

My g/f's PC is an X2 4850e @ 3 Ghz, w/7900gt, scores ~ 6000 3DMark06
I recently built an X2 4800 w/HD3200 (780g), scores ~ 2200 3DMark06

sounds about right.

My GF's PC is a 3800+ X2@2.5ghz on a 780G board with a 3450 in Hybrid crossfire, it barely breaks the 2500 mark.

The 7900GS is a LOT faster than the HD3300 IGP. There's one thing the HD3300 is better at, power consumption :p Apart from that, 7900GS all the way.

For general HD video playback, desktop usage, and power/noise concerns, the HD3300 is the clear winner. For gaming, the 7900 wins hands down. Though if you're gaming, even a cheap 4830 or 4670, or 9600GT, will stomp the guts out of a 7900, and is pretty much required for a decent experience in most games from 2008+ at common resolutions like 1440x900, 1680x1050, or especially anything above that.

I think in more recent games and drivers we would see the 8600GT and GTS separate itself from the 7900GS and GT.

If by separate you mean they are both crushed by more recent games regardless of drivers, then yes. Try playing FEAR 2 or Crysis at a typical 1680x1050 resolution on a card like that :(

Well, the results are in.

X2-3800 @ 2.4GHz, 7900GS - 4200 3DMarks
X3-710 @ 2.6GHz, integrated HD 3300 - 1897 3DMarks

I really need a new video card.
