7900gs vs 7900gt

I bought a 7900gt yesterday for $189 AR and today I found a 7900gs for $129 AR and Google checkout - I can't cancel first one though. Is the 7900GT worth the $60 more?

The 7900gs is not far behind in most benches, but since you have a 24in widescreen monitor you'll need all the gpu power you can get for modern games. If anything, I'd OC the 7900gt for even more performance.

oh i'll be OCing alright. this will be new config:

E6600 OCd
Gigabyte DS3
2GB Dual Channel OCZ Platinum
7900GT
76GB Raptor for programs/games
(2) 250GB Seagates RAID 1 for data
500W psu
etc

Looking at alot of reviews, there isn't much difference in performance at all - but every little bit helps I suppose. I went for a 7900GS myself as I thought it was the best value.

Is a 7900gt volt mod usually done with a conductive pen or a pencil? If it is done with a pen, can anyone recommend a good brand of conductive pens so i can pick one up on my next trip to frys? I wouldn't normally care, but fry's usually stocks up on no name brand products when it comes to their hardcore modding utilities (link depot fans and fry's branded fan filters come to mind).

I just my voltmod using a paperclip and a bottle of rear window defroster repair kit from Canadian Tire automotive store.

I went from 570 to 650 core stable.

HMM, I have a BFG 7900 GS OC and the pipelines would not unlock.

After changing the bits in rivatuner and rebooting it still says 20 pipelines

This happened to me when I soft-modded my Radeon X800 Pro VIVO (12 pipes, 475/900) to a Radeon X800XT PE (16-pipes, 540/1180) using the Gigabyte BIOS.

You'll have uninstall your drivers and reinstall them and then it should say 24-pipes (I hope.).
