I was wondering if I could get some opinions on which graphics card to choose. My situation is this. I saved up to buy a new comp; it just arrived last Friday as a matter of fact. It?s a dell XPS 410 with the following specs E6400, 2 gig, 7900gs. I bought all this with the thought of not upgrading for a while, certainly not within the first week of ownership.

Well of course something better/cheaper comes along right after you make a major purchase. I went to Comp U.S.A tonight and they are having a store closing sale (Memphis TN area). I bought an X1900 All-In-Wonder card for $125 just because it was a great deal.

So now I own a 7900gs and an AIW X1900. Should I pull out my 3 day old 7900 gs in favor of the x1900AIW? I own them both so it really doesn?t make a difference to me. I will likely put the card I don?t use on auction.

I am not an over-clocker. I play HL2, Battlefield 2, CSS, and other first person shooters.

It?s also hard to compare the two because many of the AIW reviews are from January and the 7900gs reviews are from last month. Older reviews, with older drivers, show the 7900gs being a faster card in the games I like. Newer reviews, with new drivers, show the X1900AIW to be the better option.

I like the AIW. That's really all of my opinion that I can give you.

The 7900gs will be faster in the majority of the games.

In most games, the x1900aiw is on par with a 7800gt.

If you need or want the aiw fuctions, just switch it out, otherwise it's not even worth the hassle and could possibly be a step backwards.

First of all I really appreciate all the help. I was thinking about keeping the 7900gs because older reviews (january and feb) show the x1900 being slower than the 7900gs.

Now I see the Octoer 2006 VGA charts at toms hardware. They show the x1900 AIW pulling down beter fps than the 7900gs and several other cards. I am not sure if this is due to new drivers. Im a bit confused really.

Here is a link to the charts

Thanks again for any help.

I'm also a bit surprised at the low numbers some of the reviews are showing for the x1900 aiw, given that it has a full fledged r580 core, only with lower clocks. But since you have both cards, you could try them both and run some benches. Maybe post your results for future reference too...
