ok well I have one of the 939 dual MBs (ones with both AGP and PCIe)

and I just got my 7900GS to replace my old 9700.

I pulled out the 9700 and put in the 7900gs. the system posts fine but when it gets to the windows bootup screen the screen goes blank the computer continues to boot and I hear the windows start up sound a fewseconds later. I let it hang there for a few min to see if maybe winodws just needs ot detect the driver or somethin but nothing happens.

so I toss hte 9700 back into the system and boot it with the (7900 still in system also) system posts on the 7900 but then the screen goes out like it did before but now the 9700 is active. I get into windows and have display on the 9700 but nothing on the 7900 and windows doesn't even detect it I try to install drivers and the drivers don't detect the card so it won't install that.

anyone ahve any thoughts? I got to be missing something trival

Can you boot into safe mode? Most likely the ATI drivers are interfering and will need to be completely removed before you can use the new card. Also, you may not be able to use both AGP and PCI-E 16x slots properly at one time with that board.

ok got it sorta working I had to reset the bios and now windows detecs and installs the card. but windows still refuses to boot on the PCI-E card and only can get it to work with the AGP card installed. going to try to untinstall the ATI crap

oh and if I set PCI-E primary in the BIOS then I get the same issue of no video once I hit windows

ok uninstalled AGP crap.

the only way windows will detect the card is if I leave in the AGP card (I have my 7900 set to primary) I don't even have a VGA cable on the AGP card I see nothing until login screen but it all works normally and I just have the ATI caard disabled in the BIOS. something is funky and i'm thinking my OC bios for my Asrock is the blaim

so you're getting the BIOS menu, but no windows, yet it boots into windows: display goes blank yet the windows theme music plays as if everything is normal...i ran into something similar when i first installed my 7800gt coming from a 6800gs PCIe...unfortunately i had to reinstall windows XP

Bios wasn't the problem latest BIOS had the same issue, oh well I got it working via that hack of just leaving any old AGP card in the slot and no monitor pluged into it then if I need to change anything in the bios I just plug something into the card change it then change back the monitor. I have a new MB comming soon so I'll just reinstall windows then

If you are using the Asrock SATAII 939 board, then you had to install an Ali AGP driver as part of the install of the video card. Try and uninstall that as well, see if it doesn't work properly. I went from a 6800AGP card in my Asrock to a PCIe 7900, and I didn't have to mess with that, but that was at least NVidia to Nvidia, not like in your case from ATI to Nvidia.

Edit: Dibs on his card if he can't get it going and gives up on it too !!! ;)

When I first installed my 7900gs I had to change the BIOS to PCI-E to get the boot screen on the card. Then I had to boot into VGA mode, nuke my ATI drivers (onboard xpress200 video), reboot into VGA mode, install the 7900gs drivers, and finally reboot into normal windows, otherwise, I got no video.

I have the woot.com 7900GS, just installed it. Haven't run 3DMark06 yet, but here are my figures for 03 and 05. I'm running an Opteron 165 @ 2.52 GHz/9x280MHz, DFI Lanparty UT Ultra-D Mobo, 2GB PC4000 RAM @ 252 MHz 3-4-3-8, 91.47 Xtreme-G drivers from tweaksrus.com.

Card stock is 450/660 core/mem, I ran it through ATITool's artifact checker and got a nice comfortable 550/840(1680) totally stable/artifact-free OC.

3DMark03 - 19,037
3DMark05 - 8,983

Inpsired by kamikaze man above me =P Using RivaTuner set it at 585/890 and got a 9,047 in 3DMark05. No noticeable artifacts while it ran (maybe some very slight "tearing" a time or two, very brief, not sure if it would be considered an artifact or not). Gonna keep it at 550/840 for normal use though I think.

Not bad I'd say for a $145 card. I upgraded from an x800GTO @ 16 pipes,540/550, with 6636 in '05 and 13311 in '03.

550/1800 so far. This thing is a monster overclocker.

Tried unlocking through rivatuner, but can't get it to stick. Maybe someone can find a way to enable the extra pipes :)

Evidently, disabled means physically, and masked means software method, so it seems our chances of getting a full 7900GT are slim to none.

I am having SERIOUS issues with my 7900GS. I used the beta drivers woot.com had and whenever I go into play a game it crashes. What other drivers could I use?

Download these - Link. I'm using them and have no issues whatsoever and are highly regarded by most everybody that's tried em.
