Frames will go up the lower you have your resolution set. This card comes OCed pretty highly even at the lowest price tier, for example the one newegg is selling for $299. This card is pretty close to a 512 7800 GTx which was top end and people gladly shelled out $800 for just a few months ago for.
A budget gamers card right now is probably along the lines of a 7600 or lower, however, since if you have a older or slower CPU and a low quality PSU, you may well either be bottlenecked even with a 7600 or you well may not have the power capability to run a 7900GT.
Unless your running at over 1200 X 1600 and have at least a A64 equivalent CPU, you may be better off saving $150. For long term useage, if you plan on holding on to the same vid card for years, then yes, go with the 7900GT.
