7900 GT SLI benchmarks

Not very impressive,but wouldn't a 3g venice at 1800mhz be a bit inadequate for sli?

Has anyone benched 78 gtx's(sli) with the same cpu to compare?

I don't know what to think,but from this view,it is far from spectacular.need to see them benched with an FX-60 to get a better picture.

thats whats holding it back....i get 11000 with my 7800GTs with a 2.5Ghz A64, i used to get about 9000-9500 with my 3200 at stock (2000mhz)

05 seems to get very cpu limited at scores in that area. ill wait for some one with a proper cpu to bench
 
Yeah the cpu BETTER be holding it back. My 7800GT gets 8200 in 3dmark05, and 4200 in 3dmark06 with my Opteron 144 @ 2.8GHz.. If the CPU isn't holding it back, then nvidia has made a huge mistake somewhere.

Hmm, strange results. My recent testing with a 7800 GT yielded : 8427 (3DMark05) / 4587 (3DMark06)

This is with a configuration of :

CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 2507 MHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT (x1) 540 MHz / 1154 MHz

So I imagine with a faster CPU, dual core optimized driver, and OVERCLOCKED, it could easily crack the 9K / 5K marks in these tests! All this for a price of $299 (est.) and a smaller length PCB (for HTPC enthusiasts like myself)....I'm sold!

It's not for $299, make that $600. The score is for TWO 7900 GTs, not one.
 
I know SLI is highlighted in the screenshot but I just don't see HOW it can be used.

In 3DMark05, with one 7800GT, I got a score of 7,000 with an Athlon 3500+, and 10,800 with two GTs. Sure, the test right used there is only 3,000+, but I fail to see how that CPU difference could mean a drop of over 2,000 points.

Then it's a bullshit review. SLI'd 7800GTs get higher than that in 05. A single GTX can hit that score with a very mild OC. Yet the screens do show a score of 84XX and SLI enabled. Which means that something is very wrong.

Yeah, that can't possibly be right. Either they aren't actually in SLI, or they are, and that CPU is holding it back horribly. I'll hold with the latter.
 
Its got to be 7800gts. When I first got my 7800gts I scored around that. When I upped my proccessor from 1.8 to 2.4 I got around 11,000.

To further extrapolate some theoretical benchmarks (ftw)...I dug up this info from my ORB site (Note this is the same system above but with different CPU/GPU settings):

3DMark06 Score: 3646
.
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 1811 MHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT (x1) 438 MHz / 1002 MHz

Extrapolating this to the 7900GT scores on their 1800 MHz Venice, I would say 5500 scores are definitely plausible if the 450/1200 Core/Mem clocks hold true.


 
8580 sounds very low. I got 9900 with my 7800GTs even before I overclocked anything. It's more like what I would expect from a single card.
 
If you look at the 3dmark06 SM2.0 & SM3.0 scores those should give you a fairly good idea of performance (they aren't terribly CPU limited like 3dmark03 @ 3dmark05 are).

2770 vs 2740

so ya, it barely edges out my XT@XTX speeds but this explains pretty well why nVidia is offering these cards as such low prices.
