hey guys, remember me? the guys afraid to get a 7900 gt? well ive done a lot of research (thanks to you guys)and i found that a lot of people with 350W PSU's (mostly dell guys) have 7900gt's. im over it and im getting it in about a week or two (when i get my pay check) i havent seen any benchmarks that compare the BFG 7900 gt OC and the EVGA CO. and on new egg theres about a $40 difference, with the BFG OC being the most expensive. now ive been hearing a lot of complaints about EVGA and there defective cards. theres like 7 pages of complaints on there forums. i currently have a 360W PSU, and yes i have decided to get the 7900 gt finally haha. but i just want to know if there is a huge difference between the two. and if i should trust EVGA... thanks for the help guys

my evga 7900gt worked flawlessly and still works flawlessly since day 1. and i was one of the FIRST to get one on the step-up program. bfg is a good company but the step-up experience and the customer service reps have sold me to evga. just my .02

Probably no reason, then a few mhz which you could probably get yourself.

Also might want to look into the vmod. Just 1.4v can get you 650mhz on the core. The memory vmod is a little harder and more riskyer, so I wouldn't do it. (and you don't really need it)

hm, thx for responding. i dont really plan on overclocking anything, i dont think i have the spare paower to do so. 360W doesent leave me much breathing room with a 7900GT, know what im saying? hmm, so do you think i should just go with EVGA? i have no idea why EVGA says you need a 400W PSU but BFG's card is overclocked out of the box and it says you only need a 350W PSU... man these manufactuerers are complicated huh

Forget about what they say about PSU requierments. A 7900GT is a 7900GT no matter how you look at it. Evga has great service (cause I'm in a 7900GT RMA right now), and since it's cheaper, might as well get it.

And no, there's not alot of defective cards. You only hear about the bad ones which makes it seem like alot.

thanks man, and EVGA has rebates, and you gt a free copy of hitman blood money. yea the one good thing i have heard about EVGA is there customer service. The one thing that is holding me back now is, what if by some weird chance my computer wont power it? (i know it will) if i call them, the first thing they will ask is "do you have atleast a 400W PSU"? and if i say no, then he will say "well thats your fault" and i cant do crap

So how come you can't upgrade your PSU with something cheap, like a FSP? (or Sparkel, spelling?)

But I still think it'll work fine.

Cheap PSU

If you still can't decide, just go with whatever's cheaper (in this case evga one).

You could always grab an Antec case with a 400+ watt PSU included & swap the components out of the Sony case, but I think you should go ahead & give it a try first, the 360 watt supply will most likely be fine.

As for the companys, I'd also go with EVGA despite the reports of bad cards ... nothing wrong with BFG either though.

Get the evga version. EVGA has got better a better warranty that covers overclocking and pretty much anything that doesn't physically damage the card. Plus if you were to ever RMA the card, you don't have to wait 5 million years for a CSR to answer your phone call like BFG

Yes you can swap the case out (easy enough), or if you look around you can either get a micro PSU (handles 200W max type jobs) to take some of the load off the main PSU, or get an external PSU, or just mount the PSU externally (bit of work though).

The options are limitless with a hacksaw and enough duct tape.

This doesn't bode well with my experiences? All I had to tell them was that I tried in 2 different systems (one Intel, the other AMD) they swapped a 6800GT to a 7800GT.
