I had two 7800GTs I was running recently in SLI for 3 months and I never once heard them spin up get faster, like as if they had a speed, fan control on them.

Well I traded up my 7800GTs for two 7900GTs with Evgas stepup program and I just got them today and for drivers I installed the XTreme-G Forceware Drivers, version for XP x64, the XTreme-G 84.21.v2 x64.

Well just now I brought the "Display Properties" and went to the Nvidia section and as soon as I did this, I noticed the fans spin up faster and they have been running this way now for about 5 mins.

Is this normal with the 7900s, do they have some type of fan, speed control in them for cooling?

THANKS

P.S. Just Now after about 5-7 mins, they finally spun down, seems like there is some type of sensor control on them, yes?

Ok I went back into the Nvidia driver section again after a few mins, like the screenshot below:

As soon as I go into the Nvidia section the fans spin up, this doesn't sound right, like this shouldn't be happening, hmmm

I'm running the XTreme-G 84.21.v2 x64, maybe I need to try another driver.

Anyone?

Ok I just spoke to Evga support, they told me the 7900s have fan, speed control on them and will spin up faster, but it also seems like the support for drivers for the 7900s just isn't there yet.

THANKS

Install the drivers, they control the fan speeds.

Cause when I just turn on the computer, mine really WINE. But when the drivers load, they get quiter at least.

I have the drivers installed, of course. SLI boxes the fans spin up faster when rebooting and slow down when the system loads, but because these are 7900s there is not real good support for them, at least under XP x64 that is.

Anyhow I spoke to Evga over this, it's cool ;)
