Given my Sapphire 7870Ghz for RMA and just got a call for service center that they are giving me 7870 XT, where most ppl are getting R9 270X for replacement... So I was thinking of challenging it and demand for R9 270X.

So, you guys think I should accept 7870 XT?
I have compared the specs and it seems tht 7870 XT is superior to R9 270X - But I can be wrong, especially when the Core clock is much lower as compared to my original 7870Ghz card tht I RMA'ed which had 1000Mhz Core clock.

Comparision Table (Aint sure if its accurate):

The 7870XT is a Tahiti-based card (same core as the 7950/7970); I always thought it should've been called the 7930 or something similar. The R9 270X is pretty much an overclocked 7870.

I'd easily take the 7870XT. Overclock it and you should see some gains from your 7870GHz.

Unless you are needing it to crossfire with another 7800 card the 7870 xt is the faster card. Because it's based on Tahiti though it needs another 7870 xt or 7900/280 to run crossfire.

Took the 7870 XT 2 days back and its all good :)

Now, I never overclocked and I assume the best way to do it is via catalyst software overdrive tab.

So, do I just have to change settings in overdrive (GPU Clock, Memory Clock) and I am all set ?

BTW, I tried it already above method with 1100Mhz GPU Clock & 1550Mhz Memory clock its all stable.

Do tellme if am doin anything wrong. Also, I aint touching power control settings at all.

Catalyst is ok for Overclocking.

You may want to increase power limit - it increases performance if the card hits TDP limit.
Nice overclock, but try to get what you can from memory clocks. This card have more shaders than 7870 but the memory is almost the same - memory bandwidth bottleneck

Well how can I know if the card have reached its TDP Limit and its infact causing the overclock to not take its full effect ?

Also, 7870 is 1200Mhz as the 7870 XT is 1500Mhz, hence memory is almost the same is not true.
