7870 to 4K tv help

Hi!

I picked up an Lg 55UF6450 over the holidays, and have been quite happy with it so far. 4K youtube looks great using the built in smart features, however i wanted to see what my PC could do. I hooked my 7870 directly to the 4K@60HZ port on the tv, and dialed in my setting in windows, and no go, all i got was a default back to 1080p and random flashing pixels on the tv. I am using a 12 foot HDMI cable but am unaware of what version of HDMI it supports. could it be something as simple as the quality of the cable? or am i having an issue with the TV?

Thanks!

Don't forget you also need HDCP 2.2 support for almost all 4k services (streaming services such as Netflix, etc.). I am not sure if the 7870 has that capability so even with the adaptor you may be limited.
