So no 8 channel audio via HDMI. I thought that was the whole point of this chipset? While this may not matter to many users here, but this was/is a feature that 785G can further distinguish itself from other platforms as the most ideal solution for HTPC crowd. I can't help but disappointed at AMD's execution. It's unclear to me, even after reading Gary's explanation, whether this issue is due to hardware, software, or yet another mess created by, oh so great, DRM.
I wonder if AMD was aiming to go for too low-budget platform at the cost of better functionality. Granted the competition is cut-throat, but I think users will gladly pay extra $10~$20 for more complete feature set. AMD can also leave the ultra-budget sector to other chipsets (such as 680G/780G).
From the look of it, there just isn't a compelling reason to upgrade to 785G from 780G let alone 790GX if you're using the latter products without an issue.
