Been eyeballing me the MSI 7850, but ye gads, at $259 its a wee bit pricy. Any indicators floating around that prices may drop a bit in the near future?

Actually that's $259.99, so $260, not $259.

Anyway. Wait for 660 Ti to be released, it may affect HD 7850 pricing. At the moment you can find that MSI 7850 for $237.50 shipped at compusa/tigerdirect but the shipping is rather lengthy. I've seen it for $220 AR or something like that on newegg once.

You could save 30$ or so by getting one of these instead (229$ on newegg):

going for quiet over saving a few $$$. 1 fan vs 2 fans will be a difference.

so whens this 660 due out?

This month or next month and if it goes for $300 then 7800 prices probably won't be going anywhere.

With the current price of the 7850, I recommend getting the 7950 for $320 AR: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2261626

The twin frozr 7850 was $210 AR recently. If it dips down to that again, then that would be a great buy as well.

im choking at $260. no way im paying $320. I would like to, but that money just isnt there. I saw that it was close to 200 a couple weeks before i started looking. mad me sad. Just waiting for a deal to come by.

its been so long since i messed with my videocard, and PC in general, i cant even remember how many watts my PS is. It was 430w at one time, but i vaguely remember replaceing it with a very quite one some years back, just dont remember the watts. I want to say its only 450w, which is below the recommended 500w. But the rest of the system doesnt pull much. 65w CPU, 2 HDDs + ram and mobo... eeh... be really close with a 450.

If you can wait a little over a week, you should see prices fall. I'm in a similar position and it's driving me nuts right now. ;)

I completely understand the money situation. I would definitely wait for a 7850 with a good cooler for $230 or less.

The quality of your psu matters more than whether it's 450W or 600W. If it's a crap psu, then I wouldn't connect it to a $200 video card. Sometimes you can find good power supplies for less than $40. So, I'd start by looking at the brand and model of your psu and posting it here.

Um two smaller fans spinning at a higher rpm will be louder than on fan that is larger that only needs to spin at a lower rpm to cool the same amount. Aftermarket cards for the most part do not have blower style extrnal exhausting fans because internally exhausting open fans are higher performance and less noise producing.
