Should i spend 70.00 for a 680i to a 780i evga exchange.
Game pc E6600@3650 8800gt sli on evga 680i water cooling.
780i works better with new intel E8400 or quad when released.
If the oc of the E8400 was higher i wouldnt ask.
No game pc while waiting for 680i to a 780i evga exchange.
Also blew 1 8800gt no sli since 12/28 evga closed holidays etc.
Spare gtx wont run in old amd pc cheap 500 blue storm shuts off on load.

Your system is very fast. You can probably keep it until Nehalem and do a full system upgrade. Unless you need a quad today, I dont see a reason to spend $70 to have the "option" to upgrade to 45nm later. Even E8400 isn't worthy of an upgrade. In games there will be no noticeable difference between 4.4ghz and a 3.6ghz Core 2 duo for at least a year, if not more.

Depends on how long you had the board, I'd say? If close to/longer than a year, why not? It's nice to have a new board (upgraded one at that) for a fraction of the price after a year of usage.

Thanks just put oem vista on it which also creates problems.
Ever since i put a bay reservoir i hate to drain the system.
I forgot a drain valve off the bottom wb.
Saw a few E8400 oc 1 second less in pi 1m isnt worth it.

I returned the eVGA 780i I had and put my eVGA 680i back in. Maybe it was just the particular board I had, but at random times the board would fail Prime95 even at default speeds and voltages. The 680i I've had since Nov 06 is running flawlessly with my new E8400 after updating the BIOS to 1.32.

Very interesting. You folks are using the eVGA 680i, and I actually count my lucky stars now for getting the Striker. I am planning to get a Penryn Wolfdale for one of my Strikers. If it works in the eVGA board, it will work in the Striker without missing a lick.
