Being a Marketing Sock Puppet is one thing. Being of Assistance here to Members is the Idea.

It would be so much better if you would be a part of the feedback loop not just "The Daily Talking Points" it would help with your normalization over time.

I think your time here would best be spent helping others with issues, and solving and real world problems.

What are you (NV) doing to solve the issues with 8800 GT/GTS(G92)? (Vista/Power Sentinel)

What is being done to Solve the Issues with 680i, and 780i... ?

Answers about current product issues helps with sales long term.

The very fact that there are only about 4-5 780i users in all the AT forums is just a show of how little everyone cares ^^ no point in shoving stats no one cares about down their throats, EVGA did enough of that.

You know, it's clearly my mistake.

I thought this was an enthusiast oriented, gaming computer motherboard forum and that people might be interested in the OCing potential of the new motherboards.

This was a Liquid Nitrogen Suicide Run by Your nbuddy Fugger.

It has no basis in reality other than a one time run..

It has no value to the Community.

You are attempting to stir-up buzz about some stuff that even a noob can see is pointless.

wake up ! we don't care !!

Face it 680i and 780i are Fecal Matter.... SLI has Limited value,, and TRI-SLI is Moronic.

Electrolytic Capacitors are not consistent with durability in a Modern MOBO.

This is why they have power regulation issues that lead to component, and memory failures.

Dan the Motherboard Editor at HardOCP has RMA'd a EVGA Reference MOBO No less than 12 times over the 15 mos. of availability...

Personally I didn't know who Fugger was till I came across this, just thought it was interesting. Suicide run or no, he got a higher score with 780i.

Like I said, sorry, I thought this was an enthusiast gaming oriented motherboard community and such a thing might interest the members here.

I guess that depends on how nice of a monitor you have. For some of us, SLi (and even 3 Way SLi) are the only way to run new games at settings people with smaller monitors take for granted. Why so hostile? Does it offend you in some way that people want to have as much immersion as possible in their gaming experience?

Go figure. I've been using 680 and 780i boards since they've existed, I've never had a problem with the 3 I have.

Can't comment on Dan's situation, but I can say the vast majority of people don't have to RMA their motherboards ever.
It's possible to run enough current through any motherboard to damage it- my answer to that would be "To what end? Can someone show me an appreciable difference in a game running at 16X10 or higher with AA on between a 3.2GHz C2D or Quad and a 4GHZ C2D or Quad?"

A little too hostile here for my taste, in any case lets stop the argument here, if people want SLI they'll get a nvidia chipset board, as it stands most people don't since most people run off 1 card. And yes fugger and kingpin were able to break 30k but the X48 isn't out yet, and you never know what they might hit, Skulltrail is in second because it has so many obvious flaws as a enthusiast board what with most of the components being server pieces, plus the price is a big downer. Now lets stop the argument here shall we?

Top 5 scores for:

3dmark06 - 3 out of 5 the top scores were done on 2900
4 out of the 5 top scores are done on Intel chipsets.

3dmark05 - 5 out of 5 of the top scores were done on Intel chipsets and use 2900

3dmark03 - 2 out of 5 chipsets used are Intel. 2 were NV and one does not have the chipset listed. 4 out of 5 GPUs were done on NV.

Out of the top 15 scrores over 03, 05 and 06 (top 5 of each)
chipsets - 11 out of 15 are Intel.
GPUs - 9 out of 15 are ATI GPUs

Not sure if it means anything but the only dominate showing from NV is on the older 03 benchmark.

So judging by 3Dmark I need to buy Intel for chipset + AMD/ATI for GPU right? I mean if I want to have the best chances of having a top tier system, those numbers certainly support that claim!

CAN'T WAIT TO GO PLAY SOME 3DMARK, WOOOOOT!!!!

It's an open forum to share opinions, ideas, and news. What may prove invaluable to some may be valuable to others.

I'm not taking sides, but the OP has caught little slack since returning. He's been freakin humble IMO. I'd be pissed if someone trashed me like like that.

How many pointless posts fill the forums these days? Would you be so harsh if it were anyone else? Geez, let the damn past stay in the past. Again, not taking sides, but we need to show some maturity here...

yes, mr fox asked me if I cared and I said I didnt either.

And yes since we r on the topic of 3dmark06, U do need an intel chipset and an ati GPU to win in getting higher 3dmark06 scores. If u want the best overall frame rates from a video card u need to get ati too.

I have no problems with Rollo, hell I joined AT after he was "banned", just saying the argument between him and Fox was too hostile for my liking.

Tri-SLI is moronic, I agree, but SLI does have a value. Plus, 680i/780i isn't just for SLI and I did have a lot of fun with it. It was the only board that actually handled 8GB (although it's because of its loose memory configuration) in a decent manner. Also I used my video card at the bottom PEG with little to no performance loss, greatly helping heat distribution when coupled with a Q6600. (which wasn't feasible with Intel chipsets until X38)

You know, that is highly debatable. Bad Axe 2 has been the most reliable Intel board among many I've used, and it doesn't have solid caps. Surely I'd take solid caps everything else being equal, but I don't think solid caps = durability or stability.

That is a gross understatement. 680i/680i LT went through so many revisions and it's not even funny. EVGA (NV's retail outlet) even voluntarily offered Step-Up from 680i to 780i. Why do you think they do that? Because they're so generous and caring about the customers?

I went through 3 RMA with 680i, and the troubles with early 680i have been well-documented all over the web. You can't just be blind-folded saying "I had no problem so it's a non-issue". That only says either 1) you're lying or 2) you're not well-informed, neither of which is commendable.

I prolly shouldn't have included your text with my comment. I was in agreement about the hostility thing; the whole rollo thing, seperate topic!

I Appreciate what you are saying Lopri, and I value your input here ..

I also have SLI on my Old AMD, and it makes that older computer a good value Three Years Later...

I know you have enjoyed your 680, I am amazed that you were able to get it to run like that but you show more patience, and skill than the common Joe.

Hmmmm... BX2 has Solid Caps in the power conditioning near the CPU Socket.. but yes the rest are Electrolytic...

But the shift to the Solid Caps is to address the slow degradation of electrolytic caps over time, and to place emphasis on build quality over feature set.

That is why Gigabyte has become such a force in the last year.

I am in agreement with what you are saying, and I'll give Rollo a chance.

I'm willing to give him the chance to try to show that he is here for something other than having Jen-Hsun Huang's hand up his ass, speaking "The Talking Points" of the day.

But evading, and side stepping issues is typical to the core company.

They attempt to ignore the end customer, and are insulated from the end user by their partnerships.

If you side step, cannot or will not respond to issues with your current products it does little to inspire that continuous improvement, and corrective actions are being applied.

It does little or nothing to inspire my faith in any of their products, other than their video cards.

We as customers, are in the middle of a political pissing match, that will be getting very competitive very soon...

While I don't have experience myself using the 680i/780 boards, I am smart enough to "read between the lines". Anytime free upgrades to a new board are offered, that should raise flags as to the older products quality/usability.

I have enjoyed by Nvidia GPUs immensely, but their recent MBs leave something to be desired. They had some great stuff for AMD back in the Nforce2-4 lines but I don't see their modenr items as being nearly so widespread or dominant.

Also, the fact that they are limiting their SLI to only their boards reeks of them trying to protect their small marketshare for MBs through these methods. Why would a company want to limit the end-user from buying more of their products (GPUs)? Obviously as a protective measure for their other products.

Just my $0.02

I was under the impression that AT did not like marketers on the forums. Seeing how focus groups are *mostly* used by marketers it seems weird they would make a deal like that.

Well Intel is yet again trying to get into the discrete graphics card market, nVidia has to protect itself and its investors so you can't really blame them, although in the business sense if they worked openly with Intel they would probably be unstoppable, and they don't offer free upgrades from 680i to 780i, you still have to pay like $90 depending on your board model and then have to wait for availability.

I don't think it was a 'deal' to be exact. Actually the chances are that they thought it was not a big deal. (pun intended) More likely some personal connections and returning small favors, etc. They just didn't realize that it'd cause such a huge wave.

OK no more off-topic from me. 😛
