780g or 790gx for HTPC?

I want to build a mediacenter / server
It needs to:
Play 1080p x264 mpeg4 files lagfree
Give me problemfree 5.1 (not HD)
Both audio and video needs to be sent from HDMI cable
Host files for my main rig I use for gaming and other purpose.
Have a vnc clinet installed as I probobly wont have a kb/mouse on it.
Have low power consumption as it will run most of the day.

this is what I have in mind atm.

780G is enough for 1080p contents. 790GX+SidePort memory is good to improve 3D performance slightly, but otherwise uselss. If you want good SD post-processing, add HD 4550.

SD post-processing not sure what that means, but I am certain I am not going to play any games on this system.

780G cannot transfer LPCM surround over HDMI. Only stereo.

But the 790gx can? I would like to have the opputinity to use hdmi only when I get a hdmi reciever.

According to the AT review of the 790GX, it also cannot transfer LPCM surround over HDMI.

From what I can understand then LPCM is for HD sound which is not what I am after, I just want normal 5.1 DTS or DD

Multichannel LPCM is necessary for HD contents (Blu-ray) and you will need a recevier supporting HDMI. For DTS/DD, HDMI from 780G/790GX is enough.

Good SD post-processing is necessary for better picture quality from the standard DVD (780G/790GX is a bit poor in this respect). This may not be your concern, however. If you add HD 4550, you will get both (multichannel LPCM and better post-processing).

The things I play atm. is 1080p MPEG4 files x264 , I am not playing real bluray movies from a bluray drive just files from my computer. So there is no high def sound. I know its not a lot of money but if there is no real reason to get that gfx card then I would like to be without.
