Should I get CF Radeon 7850 or one Radeon 7950 3GB and CF it in a year or so for eyefinity? I have read a few reviews on the Radeon 7850 and it seems to have A LOT of stability issues, but I have been advised here to get 2 7850s as they beat the Radeon 7970 by a good margin.
 
IMO going from a 6950 to 7870 and overclocking 20%, is a big jump, it is like going from a 6950 to 7950 stock which isn't huge but definitely very significant.

Get a 7970 and aftermarket cooling, will compete with 2 7850 stock once overclocked without CF hassles.
 
7850 overvolted overclocked review. 315MHz over the reference design and mem 1525MHz which is 22% higher than stock clocks. Almost beats gtx 580 and beats 7870.

Now it's starting to seem like a better deal. The GTX 448s can do this too and they are $240. $260 is a fair price for more mem and cooler running.

I still think the 7870 is $50 too much. Stock it's just a little faster than GTX 570 which is $100 less. They'll come down to $300 once they have 28nm competition. then we'll all be happy.

You didn't take into account that even the 7870 can be overclocked very high (20%+ instead of 30% on the 7850), I am talking of nearly stock volts here. So an overclock 7870 will reach in the 7950 stock plus terrain, definitely faster than any overclocked 580 and sometimes perhaps close to or faster than a stock 7950, once you overclock it 20-25%+ that is.

So the difference will always be there. If you want better performance, you need to go for a 7870 if your budget permits. If not, the 7850 is a decent card as well 🙂

And a stock 7870 is faster than a 570/6970 and is within 10%+- performance of a 580. Once you overclock it is like 5-15% faster than a 580 at the very least, perhaps 20%+ once overclocked enough 🙂 But that might need after market cooling 🙂
 
I probably won't wait for reviews on the 7870s.

Which manufacturer made the best quiet coolers for the 7950? Gigabyte, sapphire, xfx, msi, powercolor? Mostly concerned with idle fan noise and overclocking ability.
 
Well right now looks like going with nvidia is the way to go, as there cards have dropped in price. Considering you can get a 570 for 270, or 560ti for 170
 
Wish i got a GB HD7870 over my GB HD7970 OC WF because it dumps allot of heat into my case i now have to leave the side pannel open to keep temps on the card and CPU under 70c's
 
I am debating getting either the 7870 or 7950 powercolor pcs+ for crossfire at 2560x1440 for BF3, just not sure which one...

7870 for sure!!

The heat one 7950 pumps out is crazy while playing BF3 i can smell my PC burning plastic on a HD7970... opening the side pannel helps a bit
 
That's just it. The powercolor 7950 with its custom cooler is much much quieter and cooler than the stock one...

Not really.. it does keep the card cooler but its "one of those custome coolers that dumps the heat into the case and not out of it...

Overall the fans cant extract the heat out fast enough unless you have the case open it will heat up the whole pc .. thats what happened to me even with a nice case with 4 x 120mm case fans!
