I'm going to be purchasing new parts for a computer soon and have decided to go with the dual cored Athlon X2 4400 paired with a 7800GTX video card. My goal here is to run games at the native resolution of my LCD (1600x1200) while also having the ability for some good multitasking.

Is this a good combination to achieve my desired results? For reference I'll be upgrading from a 1200MHz Athlon Thunderbird and GeForce3.

Thanks,
Frank

Should work great :p The X2 isn't as good a performer as a similarly priced single core, but if you are going to multitask then... ForceWare rel. 80 should give some boost to those with dual core too, but I doubt it'll be all that much.

Yes, but my 3000+ Venice running at 2.5 GHz will own it in gaming. Together with my XFX 7800GTX OC they score 8500 in 3DMark05 (w00t!!)

Fear, AOE3, Oblivion, and probably a few I'm missing will be dual core optimized. Does this mean truly multi threaded? Maybe, maybe not. We shall see sometime in october. Also that 4400+ will most likely OC to 2.6 ghz.

It's a much more future-proof investment than buying another FX-55. Besides, get a decent cooler and O/C it then you got two FX-55s.

LOL Bullsh|T

I know, .3 ghz doesnt make a huge difference, plus the cache on the 4400+ will help a bit. (Besides the entire other core for multitasking and future games)

A 2.5+GHZ Venice will own an X2 in gaming. Maybe not future games, but right now, X2 and Venice are about even clock for clock.

LOL

And your Venice core gets owned even worse than the 4000+.

I cannot believe you said a Venice 512kb will "own" an X2 when it doesnt even win 1 benchmark

My 3DMark 2005 score is 8500 . WOOT!!!!!! running UT2K4 @1920x1200 ALL SETTING MAXED with 80 fps MINIMUM. In the words of the game: "EAT THAT" !

btw, my Venice is comparable to a 3800+ but is running faster so it should beat the 4400 X2 in your benchmarks.
