7800gtx vs x850xt pe in call of duty 2!

34fps is a little sad considering that DOD-S has better graphics and textures + HDR and I get 70fps

Although there is quite a bit of action on the screen in COD

obligatory? pic?

Btw, it is funny to see how ppl compare an apple (x850xtpe) and an orange (7800GTX)....Of course the next GEN card will out pace the previous version.

The more interesting point of this article is that basically neither the x850 nor the 7800gtx can offer playable framerates with eye candy enabled. We need newer cards already, or we need the developers putting more effort into optimizing their code for speed.

The 7800GTX is unplayable at 1600x1200 with noAA and No AF? and unplayable above 1024x768 with only 4XAA an AF?

Something seems amiss to me.

Geez, and the 7800GTX is overclocked.

Just goes to show, when you pit a more expensive, next gen card up against a cheaper, last generation card the former will win every time. 🙂

I am thinking that this demo isn't very optimized yet, or at least I hope it isn't. If you can't play this on a 7800GTX at a high resolution w/o AA or AF, then something needs fixing...

I'm still waiting on my download, but isn't it the Doom3 engine?

BOTH are UNplayable at 16x12 with minimal [4x]AA and barely playable with NO AA . . .
yeah, the GTX really "shines"😛

i guess you need GTX SLI for 16x12 with everything on and AA/AF

Is this a sign that a temporary lack of competition (due to ATI's less than stellar performance) has caused a disproportional increase in cost in comparison to game performance? Or is it just that with so much power, game companies are getting lazy and relying on powerful hardware instead of efficient software?

I played this on my 2.4gig Barton, 6800U, 1gig ram machine @1280x960 evrything maxed and 4xAA and it was smooth. I'll have to do the timedemo and get the true numbers. And what about AF? I have my NV controls set @8xAF.

Prices grabbed from Pricewatch.com:
Radeon x850 xt platinum PCI Express - $453
Radeon x850 xt platinum AGP - $363

Geforce 7800 gtx 256mb PCI Express - $468

You would think that, but check out the price. The PCI-E part is only $15 cheaper than the 7800 GTX and the AGP part is almost $100 cheaper than the PCI-E counter part. ATI needs to release the X1800 soon, because the price of the x850 XT PE is nuts. Other than that, I agree with Creig, the x850 XT PE is holding up pretty well against the 7800 GTX. And it's not just in this benchmark but in many others as well.

I'm glad they ditched the Q3 engine, that thing is seriouly getting outdated, no matter how you enhance it.

Much too bright for the D3 eng 😛

LOL, I wonder what happened to COD2 on D3 engine though, I thought they had it on their upcoming titles list?
