I had a 7800GTX (256MB version) in a backup computer and realized from benchmarks that it was actually better than my X1800 GTO. So I decided to swap them, since the GTO fan was so damn loud.

One problem. In 1680x1050 mode, the native resolution of the Viewsonic 22" widescreen, it looks like I'm using less of a resolution. The desktop extends out slightly to the right and fonts are blocky. I can only display in 60Hz, which is ridiculous, I know that monitor can do better. Auto sync is not working. I have the latest drivers across the board. Any ideas?

Are you on the DVI? Run the 'auto' feature on the monitor itself. 60hz is normal for LCDs, for the most part, btw.

Yes I'm on DVI. Only option available to me. And what Auto feature?

The odd thing is, I am IN 1680x1050 mode but the monitor keeps popping up a note saying best resolution is 1680x1050 mode and I should switch. I'm like, WTF, I'm in that resolution.

I had the exact same problem with my 22" inch Viewsonic and my 7800GS.

I fixed it by uninstalling the drivers with driver cleaner and then re-installing.

And 60Hz should be normal for an LCD.

Yes, I said so. I did it 3 times now, including once in safe mode. Nothing works.

Ironically, I just had this same problem with my home 7900 + Viewsonic 22" with the new drivers. I went back to the 8x.xx series, and all is well. Try that, you can get older drivers at Nvidia's site, and fwiw, performance seems identical to what I was getting with the 168s.

It worked. Incredible. I found the 94.24 release from a few months ago and it came up perfect. The 162 drivers? FUBAR.

I'll post this on the nVidia boards and let them know.

Thanks for the suggestion.

No problem, and funny that I ran into the same issue when I updated my drivers :)

Hopefully they fix it soon
