Ok, well iv done a search on these forums, and theres a few posts about SLI'ing cards from two different manufacturers, but nothing about SLI'ing two different models. I have got a 7800gtx in my pc, and i also have a BFG 7800gt oc laying around from when i bought all my parts. I was going to sell it, but since im getting rubbish FPS in aoe3 with one card, i thought id try with SLI.

Will this work? Both have the same G70 core, so i dont see why it wouldnt. Will my 7800gtx be clocked down?

Dunno why im getting terrible performance in AOE3 anyway. Im really disappointed with this whole setup. At 1024 x 768, which AA on 2x and AF on 8x my fps sit around 45-50, and during a battle with artillery they drop down to 4-8 FPS which is rubbish. My 2405fpw should be arriving in the next few days, if this thing cant handle 1024 x 768, i dont know what its going to be doing with 1900 x 1200. Im running an X2 4400, 1gb Kingston hyperx, 2 x 250 samsung p120's in raid, a Gigabyte 7800gtx and the 81.95 forceware. Oh, and i have a 600w fortron PSU (Super Flower here in Australia) so it shouldnt be a power problem.

Not that I am aware of.

If you can, I will definately get a GTX to pair with my GT, but I am 99.9999999999999% sure you can't.

That would just be way to good to be true.

You "might" if you flash it with a 7800GT Bios and disable some pipes... but not very likely.

unfortunately, this isnt crossfire, where you can pair an X1800XT master card with an X1800XL...

SLI only lets you mix different vendors of the same card. example: asus 6800GT w/ msi 6800GT, xfx 6600GT w/ evga 6600GT.

you could also sell the GTX and get a GT like blackjesus said, but thats totally up to you.

..well i guess i could sell the GTX...but i hate selling things. Everytime i sell something, i almost get scammed, or i sell the thing to someone, who breaks the damm thing, then calls me and complains about it. When i refuse to refund their money, they decide their gonna call me up and harrass me about it every now and then. I hate that. Getting threats from people who seem pretty unsavoury.

I may try it anyway. I know theres like 0% chance of it working..but no-one seems to have tried it so i mayaswell.

Its probably a better idea to address my poor performance issues first, because something must not be right. The performance im gettig from my gtx seems more equivilant to a 6600gt.

It won't work buddy ;)

I'd sell the GTX, but you could also sell the GT and spend a little more for another GTX ;)

The crossfire mixing of cards is worthless because higherend card downclocks to match the lower end. I think XBITLABS did a review of a X1800XL and X1800XT and found the X1800XT losing enough performance to make card mixing not worth it.

Has anyone been having similar problems? I expected performance to better better with a gtx, but maybe this is normal. I dunno.

I seriously don't think it's normal, you might want to take a look at all your drivers.
