7800gtx HS > 6800gt

Does anyone know if its possible to put the HS from a 7800gtx on a 6800gt. I just got a killer deal on the 7800gtx. I have a vf900 that im gonna put on it. I destroyed the origonal hs for the 6800gt a long time ago for some odd reason. im pretty sure they use the same mounting holes on the vf900. Thanks.
 
A Zalman VF900 should fit on your new 7800GTX, however you may have to modify the mounting hardware some.
 
Since you have both in front of you why dont you give it a try?
I remember putting an nv silencer from a 6800 on my 7900gt and it fit just fine.

i wont have the 7800gtx till i go home in 2 weeks thats the only reason im asking, i know i wont know till i give it a shot just looking around to see if anyone has done this.
 
Erm, I believe you all are mistaken on what he is asking. He is asking to put his stock 7800gtx cooler onto his old 6800GT, which was previously cooled by a VF-900. He wants to use the VF-900 on the 7800gtx, leaving the 6800GT heatsink-less.

As far as answers go, I don't know.

yes that is my question. i guess i will just have to tinker with it when i get the new card an ill post up what i find.
 
hey i just want to come back to this and let everyone know that YES IT IS possible to fit this hs on with minor modification. all the holes for EVERYTHING are already in the PCV i just had to cut one small corner out of the HS and sand just a little extra material off the bottom to clear a capacitor. it looks like its ment to be there. the only question i have is which leads are positive and negative for the fan power?
