Nvidia drivers have a tab where you should be able to enter any resolution you want.

its not 1080x??? it will be ???x1080. The last number of the resolution is what you are looking for.

besides Nv has a built in HDTV section.

The display might very well actually have no more than 720 lines natively. Have you checked on that?

Wouldn't that be an EDTV then?

Yeah, but 720xSomething is not the same as Somethingx720.

TV resolutions go off the second number for computer resolutions.

Unless I'm just confused, then 720x480 is what he's at now basically which would be an ED resolution. If he can't set it higher (like 1280x720 or 1080i) then he might have an EDTV.

Or am I misunderstanding how he's talking about resolutions and 720 x ??? = 720p

Which is why Peter said 720 lines and not 720 rows. Ed displays have 480 lines and HD displays have at least 720 lines and up to 1080 lines.

Also, DVDs are 720x480 but ED displays tend to have square pixels so they tend to be around 848x480 to 853x480.

I guess I wasn't paying attention to rows vs lines as I've seen both described as lines in the past.

So do you know which one knifemyglitter is talking about with his 720 comments?

its a Mitsubishi 65' widescreen HDTV. We can watch HDTV shows on our IO cable, and im using the same connection with the component video (or composit?) well the one with Blue Green and Red. Something with the driver wouldnt let it go higher? any ideas?

That's component.

Are you setting the output from the videocard to 720x??? or is it 720p (1280x720)?

Do you know what the resolution of your TV is, or the model number at least?

Yeah, blue/green/red would be component and that should give up up to 1920x1080@30hz, I'm not sure why you'd be limited to 720x480 or whatever. I'm really not familar with the component out on the new Geforce cards but you might try dissabling the "hide modes this monitor cannot support" under the display manager's monitor properties.

ForceWare control panel, Screen Resolutions and Refresh Rates, custom resolutions and refresh rates, show standard HDTV formats. Does that fix it?

If what we're saying isn't helping, make sure to check out AVSforum. There might be a specific thread about your tv there or something about it in the HTPC area.

Its probably a CRT based RPTV then, which probably supports 480p/540p and 1080i, but not 720p. Make sure you are not using the low bandwidth component input if it has more than 1 (my RPTV has 2 component inputs, 1)low bandwidth for 480i/480p and 1)High Bandwidth for 1080i)

To be honest, I gave up trying to get my 6800nu to sync to 1080i after many driver revisions, and custom timings in Forceware and using Powerstrip as well. That was last year, and the custom timing support was new, so surely it has improved.

Also, try changing the refresh down to 30Hz and see if 1080i (1920x1080@30Hz) is available.

AVSforums was good advice:)

leave it alone, it screws with the syncronization of games and physics, causes all kinds of latency issues.
