Yeah thats a wee bit overkill for a card that isnt even going to be called an "Ultra"

Ah, but there's the R580 to arrive in the future as well... sometime... possibly.

Heh, sometime...possibly...definitely after the much-hyped X1800XT finally hits a retail shelf?

Assuming this retails at under 600 bucks, look for my GTX below w/ NVsilencer to sell for 375.00 shipped :D

Should they still be scared if an XT can be OC'd to 700mhz? I'm thinking it should have no problems reaching 700mhz on air given that it went past 1ghz on LN.

even though i feel a little disapointed getting a 7800GTX if it's true, we all know that in a year when the standard GTX might not run newest games with all the bells and whistles, something far better is available.

R580 taped out way sooner than R520, so theoretically (or how ever you spell it), R580 could come out right after 7800 512mb. .. But that's just wish thinking :)

Munky, be realistic. If those specs are correct (Not saying they are by any means) don't you think it will be a little tough for ATI to beat?

Yep, because ATi needs the higher clock to be competitive.

GTX @ 550 and XT @ 700 would be pretty equal.

Drivers would then tell the story...and perhaps the faster RAM of the 512MB GTX part.

I think we could see a r580 in early 2006, and if the 512 gtx puts enough pressure on Ati, they might release the r580 sooner than expected. Otherwise Ati would just milk the r520 for all it's worth for as long as possible.

Uh huh.. And perhaps the mem controller, dynamic branching performance, AA/AF efficiency, and a bunch of other things I forgot to mention.

I'll confirm nothing, but reiterate I had to ask if the specs were a typo. Good times to be a gamer.

Remember, a GTX at 550, if OC'ed to 590, is going to be running at 630/590/590 for the three domains, if it follows the scaling of the original gtx

That would be a good thing. An R580 getting to market sooner than later that is. Both sides keeping up the pressure. But that memory clock rumor, holy hell thats insane for stock speeds. And 120MHz increase on the core is very impressive indeed. Do you happen to have a link to the presumed R580 specs so I/we can get a refresher? :D

The commonly accepted theory at b3d is 48 pixel shaders, 16 ROP's, 16 TMU's, and 16 Z/Stencil operators. This is based on leaked internal Ati slides, that also described the current x1k cards several months before the launch, and which turned out to be true so far.

Apparently they are considering ALUs pixel shaders which is fine. But that means the current GTX is a 48 pixel shader part according to that standard.

I'll take it, if you can't beat it go SLI. Wasnt there a murmur from an ATI employee or exec that Nvidia only needed to bump clockspeed to keep the lead till 2006?

LOL too bad its a FAKE, the picture at HKPEC is that of a Leadtek PX7800 Extreme Workstation card outfitted with 512MB of GDDR3.. it's memory bandwidth is listed at 33.6Gb/s.

It's very hard to believe that they would increase the clocks by this much. It's definately not a normal increase for a product like this and if it's true, it just goes to show how threatened they are by the X1800xT and what lengths they feel they need to go to in order to soundly beat it. Doesn't make much marketing sense either that they would beef up the card so much and not even give it a new name like Ultra. Nontechnical buyers will just assume that it's a GTX with 512MB. Then again your average Joe won't be buying this thing off the shelf.

Yeah keep dreaming , if in fact they aren't referring to the ALUs and the Pixel Pipes together.

I however maintain my previous stance. ATI would be shooting itself in the foot to release a flagship product (X1800XT) and then trump their own product with a release in the next month. YOu guys are all saying wait for R580...sh!t im STILL waiting for the R520!!

As for your comment on the 700mhz clock or 1000mhz clock. First off, not going to happen. Second off, imagine the power consumption if it did. It would be UNREAL. The X1800XT already, in benchmarks, consumes more power than any previous GPU, 55Watt more than the G70. Imagine if you ramped the clock even farther to that extreme, we are talking a chip so hot, and so power hungry, theyll be lucky if someone has the guts to run it.

Wasnt aware that there have been any fresh "512mb 7800GTX" pics since last july. As far as I know there are no claimed real pics of any new 7800 yet. Its all 7800GTX, GT and Quadro.
