It's a bit late to be spending $750+ on a 7800GTX 512 with the R580/G71 to be released within the next few weeks. Then again, it's your money.

Alienware:

1) Select your parts.
2) Double the price.
3) Pay an extra $2,000 because of our wonderful "Alienware" case.

People aren't willing to pay enough on eBay anymore to make it a profitable situation. Currently, I plan to use eVGA's step-up program for a G71 when it comes available and figure out what to do when that happens. Max settings in BF2 aren't as great as I was expecting compared to what I was using before.

I guess w/ all of the eye-candy turned on, it's not that much more better looking than when I had things set to medium. And w/ my lcd monitor(1600x1200 stretched to 1920x1200), I have to turn on vsync so that I don't get any tearing, so I'm only getting 60fps.

dude, how much did you pay for your 512? If you paid like 750 dollars, and the next card g71 is like 600 dollars, then you get to step up for free I think.

I paid $750(Tiger Direct) but it came w/ COD2(which I will sell) and I got 3% in FatWallet bucks. And one of the reasons, I justified the purchase was that I'd be able to step-up for free(or close to free) to a G71. And if the R580 is better, then I'll sell the G71 and get that.

Reading eVGA step-up details, I was surprised that they'd give you full invoice credit for the purchase, even if it wasn't purchased thru them. So, TD's extra profit becomes eVGA's loss.

So what if G71 only costs $599???? Does EVGA give you a check for $125 with that card?

It's possible. I guess I'd chalk it up as a risk I was willing to take(and lost) and the cost for using the card for a couple months.

eVGA isn't going to give me any cash back but possibly eVGA bucks that I could use to purchase another card down the road. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
